Michigan State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education
The CE Shop is an approved school in Michigan: Code/Approval Number: L289
Every three (3) years, eighteen (18) clock hours of Real Estate Continuing Education is required.
- If a licensee is initially licensed on or before 10/31/10, 18 total hours are needed.
- If a licensee is initially licensed between 11/01/10 and 10/31/11, 12 total hours are needed.
- If a licensee is initially licensed between 11/01/11 and 06/30/12, 6 total hours are needed.
- If a licensee is initially licensed between 07/01/12 and 10/31/12, no hours are needed this renewal cycle.

Prior to 10/31/12, licensees are required to complete at least two (2) hours of real estate continuing education in a “legal update” for each license year of the 3 year renewal cycle, but are recommended to complete a total of six (6) hours of real estate continuing education per license year including or in addition to the two (2) hours of “legal updates”. Please look for courses in the catalog above that are under the mandatory hours column for courses that meet the two (2) hours of “legal updates” you are required to have each license year of the 3 year renewal cycle.
- RENEWAL INFORMATION: The CE Shop will report the completed hours to the state; HOWEVER, it is the licensee's responsibility to renew their license with the state of Michigan NO LATER THAN midnight on 10/31/12 (if submitting a paper renewal, it must be in the MI DLEG office by 10/31/12). IMPORTANT: Licensees must renew by 10/31/12, even if their Con Ed credit hours have not been reported or posted yet to the DLEG. The credit hours do not have to show up on the DLEG website before a licensee can renew, but the hours must be completed by 10/31/12 and the licensee must renew by 10/31/12.
- If you missed some K courses from the 2007-2009 renewal period, you may still take the current L courses for your CE. You must apply for re-licensure once you have completed your CE.
Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course Certificate of Completion via email and posted in your account. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of six (6) years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Licensees are encouraged to retain copies of their Certificates of Completion in the event that they are audited by the state. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal.
IMPORTANT: Please note that while The CE Shop, Inc designs packages and courses to meet the licensees’ needs, IT IS ALWAYS THE LICENSEES RESPONSIBILITY to ensure they have ordered and completed the correct number and type (legal update/elective) of hours to renew their license by their state deadline. The CE Shop, Inc cannot and will not at any time be held liable if a customer orders/completes the incorrect number and/or type of hours and/or cannot subsequently renew their licenses with the state due to incorrect or insufficient Con Ed hours.
Real estate course completions are recorded with the DLEG each business day. It may take 2-4 business days from the time we submit your hours before the Commission updates your license and/or updates their website with the hours. Our submission of your hours does NOT constitute renewing your license with DLEG. The responsibility of renewing a license always directly belongs to the licensee holding that license. Please enter your individual license number correctly and fully when prompted in the registration process to ensure the reporting of your hours takes place. Michigan license numbers should be ten (10) digits and usually start with 6501, 6502, or 6504 depending on the license type.
